Under the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act, signed by Govonor Pat McCrory in North Carolina, in schools and government buildings people must use the bathroom that corresponds with their biological sex, defined as the one stated on a person's birth certificate. That puts transgender people, who does not identify with the gender on their birth certificate, in the uncomfortable position of being forced to pee with women or men. We were warned on the concenquses on this act. Denying transgenders access to bathrooms of their choosing in schools and the workplace may cause many to avoid using public restrooms altogether, causing problems such as dehydration, kidney infections and urinary tract infections. Also, transgender people of color come across harassment and violence when they are forced to use bathrooms based on their birth certificates.

I think that transgenders should be granted to use the bathroom of their choosing. it is a violation of federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sexual or gender identity, which was argued in lawsuit challenging the act. I think it is unfair that House Bill 2 also prevents cities from passing antidiscrimination ordinances to protect gay and transgender people, Research shows that all this is going to do is cause problems. Transgenders should not have to deal with avoiding the bathroom, and if they do, being harassed for doing it. they should feel safe while using the bathroom.

This article relates to class because we have been discussing the 14th amendment which says "no state shall deprive any person of life, liberty, or property" and this act is depriving persons the right to use the bathroom of their choice. Also, this Act could potentially cause sexual harassment, which we also have been discussing in class. This act could create a hostile work environment for any transgender who choses to use the restroom during school, or at work.
